Jewelry & Watch auctions: what the numbers say

There are 1,866 jewelry & watch auctions open right now across 36 states, with the most in Nevada (452), California (370), Massachusetts (129), Pennsylvania (79) and Texas (57). Most of them are on GovDeals, Proxibid and J.J. Kane. The biggest sellers at the moment are Virginia, Commonwealth of - Darbytown, Clinton Township, Commonwealth of Kentucky and West Virginia State Treasurer's Office - Unclaimed Property. The next to close is BRAND NEW FIREFIGHTER FIRE FIGHTER FIREMAN BADGE - CHOICE OF GOLD OR SILVER - SH at $10.

Over the past year the UX Search sold archive recorded 632 closed jewelry & watch sales, with a middle hammer price of $125 and a range from $2 to $45,000. By state, California ran about $75 (165 sales), Texas ran about $111 (113 sales) and Arizona ran about $605 (64 sales). The buyer's premium, sales tax and pickup are on top of the hammer price, and each sale on this page links to the listing it came from.

Prices at government auction follow the seller, not the item: a state fleet that serviced a truck on schedule sells it for more than a county that ran it into the ground, and a sale that closes at 2 PM on a Tuesday draws fewer bidders than one that closes Sunday night. The listing's photos, the seller's name and the location tell you most of what you need; the sold prices on this page tell you the rest.

UX Search reads these sites itself and shows their listings first, with counts and photos, on every search.

UX Search links to these auction sites and is not affiliated with them. Bidding, payment and pickup happen on each site, under its own rules.

Before you bid

  • Count the buyer’s premium. Auction houses add a percentage to the hammer price, often 20% to 30% at major houses. Check each sale’s terms.
  • Read the condition report. Ask for one if it isn’t posted. Photos don’t always show repairs, restoration or damage.
  • Check authenticity. Look for grading, certificates or provenance, and know each house’s return policy for items found not genuine.
  • Plan shipping and tax. Shipping fragile or valuable items costs extra, and sales tax may apply where the item is delivered.
