About LiveAuctioneers
LiveAuctioneers started in New York in 2002 and launched live bidding apps in 2009. It was bought by Auction Technology Group in 2021 and keeps its New York headquarters. It is not an auction house itself: each sale is run by an independent auction house, which sets its own terms and is the seller.
Thousands of houses list their catalogs there, with more than a thousand online auctions open at a time, covering fine art, jewelry, Asian antiques, furniture, collectibles, coins, home decor and fashion. Its free auction results archive lets you see what similar items sold for.

How buying works at LiveAuctioneers
- Make a free accountSign up on liveauctioneers.com or in the app for iPhone or Android.
- Get approved for each saleEach auction house approves its own bidders, so approval for one sale doesn't carry to another.
- BidLeave an absentee bid before a live sale or bid live online or in the app while it runs.
- Check the house's feesEach house sets its buyer's premium, shipping and other fees. Read that auction's terms before you bid.
- Pay and shipPay by invoice, card or ACH. Shipping depends on the house, which may refer you to a shipper.
What it costs
LiveAuctioneers doesn't set the buyer's premium; each auction house does, and many charge more for bids placed on LiveAuctioneers. Examples and payment fees:
| What | Cost |
|---|---|
| Buyer's premium | Set by each auction house |
| Typical extra for bidding on LiveAuctioneers | 3 to 5 points more than in the house's own room |
| Bonhams | +4% of hammer (plus VAT) |
| Swann, Heritage, John Moran, Alderfer | +5% |
| Brunk | 30% vs 25% direct |
| Neal | 30% vs 25% direct |
| AutoPay by card (reported by a house, 2025) | 3.99% + $0.25 |
| AutoPay by ACH (reported by a house, 2025) | 1% + $0.50 |
Compare a house's LiveAuctioneers rate with its own-site rate on that house's page before you bid.
