Coin & Currency auctions: what the numbers say

There are 101 coin & currency auctions open right now across 13 states, with the most in California (32), Florida (14), Illinois (8), Pennsylvania (7) and New York (5). Most of them are on GovDeals, Proxibid and City of Chicago. The biggest sellers at the moment are City of Chicago (Planning and Development), City of Pittsburgh, St. Louis Land Reutilization Authority and Kenton County Fiscal Court. The next to close is 2001 George Walker Bush Coin at $10.

Over the past year the UX Search sold archive recorded 209 closed coin & currency sales, with a middle hammer price of $110 and a range from $3 to $19,500. By state, Georgia ran about $24 (42 sales), North Carolina ran about $625 (29 sales) and Tennessee ran about $27 (18 sales). The buyer's premium, sales tax and pickup are on top of the hammer price, and each sale on this page links to the listing it came from.

Prices at government auction follow the seller, not the item: a state fleet that serviced a truck on schedule sells it for more than a county that ran it into the ground, and a sale that closes at 2 PM on a Tuesday draws fewer bidders than one that closes Sunday night. The listing's photos, the seller's name and the location tell you most of what you need; the sold prices on this page tell you the rest.

Last updated October 27, 2026 at 7:10 PM ET. Live counts come from the UX Search index, which reads the government auction platforms every 15 minutes; sold prices are real hammer prices from the UX sold archive over the past year. UX Search is independent and never takes a bid; bidding, payment and pickup happen on the platform that runs each sale.

Auction sites for coins & currency

UX Search links to these auction sites and is not affiliated with them. Bidding, payment and pickup happen on each site, under its own rules.

Before you bid

  • Buy graded coins when you can. Coins graded by PCGS or NGC are easier to value and resell.
  • Count the buyer’s premium. Auction houses add a percentage to the hammer price, often 20% to 30% at major houses. Check each sale’s terms.
  • Plan shipping and tax. Shipping fragile or valuable items costs extra, and sales tax may apply where the item is delivered.
