About IronPlanet
IronPlanet started in 1999 as an online-only marketplace for used construction equipment. Ritchie Bros. bought it in 2017, and it is now part of RB Global. It runs alongside GovPlanet, which handles government surplus.
Sales run as weekly online auctions, and some onsite Ritchie Bros. events can also be bid on through IronPlanet. Equipment usually stays at the seller's location, so the buyer arranges pickup there. Many items carry an inspection report, and items with IronClad Assurance are backed by a condition promise. Buyers can place a PriorityBid during the preview period before the live close.

What it costs
IronPlanet shows the transaction fee on each listing's Payment tab, and its terms and fee page list the other charges.
| What | Cost |
|---|---|
| Transaction fee | Based on the final price and shown on each listing's Payment tab before you bid |
| Document fee, titled items | $125 per item needing title or registration papers (U.S., Canada, Mexico) |
| Credit card fee | 2.95% service fee on card payments of $10,000 or less |
| Late payment fee | $10 to $250 per item per business day, by price tier |
| Default fee | $500 (up to $2,500) to $6,500 (over $100,000), by price tier |
| Storage | $25 per day from the 9th day after item release, capped at $1,500 |
| Relocation fee | Greater of 1% of the price or $250, if moved after 15 days |
| Registration and bidding | Free |
| Sales tax | Added where it applies |
A worked example: a titled truck sold for $20,000 costs $20,125 with the doc fee, plus the transaction fee shown on its Payment tab and any sales tax. Leaving it 12 days past the item release adds four days of storage, or $100.
