Farm Equipment & Tractor auctions: what the numbers say

There are 3,399 farm equipment & tractor auctions open right now across 45 states, with the most in Kansas (141), Texas (94), Florida (61), Tennessee (37) and Illinois (35). Most of them are on Proxibid, Purple Wave and GovDeals. The biggest sellers at the moment are City of Pittsburgh, State of Minnesota, Cumberland City Council & Mayor and Port of Corpus Christi. The next to close is Ford 2600 Utility Tractor at $1,500.

Over the past year the UX Search sold archive recorded 1,036 closed farm equipment & tractor sales, with a middle hammer price of $4,850 and a range from $3 to $98,500. By state, Ohio ran about $5,275 (66 sales), Pennsylvania ran about $7,100 (55 sales) and Georgia ran about $4,700 (54 sales). The buyer's premium, sales tax and pickup are on top of the hammer price, and each sale on this page links to the listing it came from.

Prices at government auction follow the seller, not the item: a state fleet that serviced a truck on schedule sells it for more than a county that ran it into the ground, and a sale that closes at 2 PM on a Tuesday draws fewer bidders than one that closes Sunday night. The listing's photos, the seller's name and the location tell you most of what you need; the sold prices on this page tell you the rest.

UX Search is independent and never takes a bid; bidding, payment and pickup happen on the platform that runs each sale.

Tractors, combines, planters, balers and other farm machinery sell at farm retirement, dealer and online auctions every week. UX Search checks the major equipment platforms on every search and lists the farm auctioneers below.

Farm equipment reaches auction from three directions: farm retirements and estate sales run by regional auction houses, dealer and consignment sales on the big online equipment platforms, and government surplus, where state transportation departments, parks and universities sell tractors, mowers, sprayers and implements they are done with. Tractors from government fleets tend to be lower-hour than farm tractors of the same age because they mowed roadsides and parks rather than worked ground.

The sold prices below are from the government and public-surplus side of the market. For the private farm sales, the auction houses on this page publish their calendars and most now run online bidding alongside the live sale.

Before you bid

  • Count the fees. Buyer’s premiums and documentation fees vary by auction. Check each site’s terms before you bid.
  • Check hours and records. Look for hour-meter readings, service records and photos of wear points such as pins, bushings, tracks and tires.
  • See it run if you can. Many equipment sales have inspection days. If you can’t go, hire an inspector.
  • Plan the haul. Heavy equipment may need a permit load and a lowboy. Get a shipping quote before you bid.
