About IAA

Insurance Auto Auctions was founded in 1982 and is based in Westchester, Illinois. It traded on the New York Stock Exchange as IAA until March 2023, when Ritchie Bros. (now RB Global) bought it. It runs about 200 branches in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Insurance companies supply most of its vehicles, along with rental firms, dealers, charities and government fleets.

Sales run on IAA's online platform, with live online bidding and proxy bids placed before the sale. Some lots offer Buy Now. Each lot sits at a physical branch, which sets its own pickup hours and storage rules. In 2026 IAA also holds government fleet vehicle sales.
