Seized & Forfeited Property auctions: what the numbers say

There are 3,028 seized & forfeited property auctions open right now across 46 states, with the most in Nevada (456), California (378), Texas (284), Massachusetts (133) and Pennsylvania (94). Most of them are on GovDeals, Proxibid and J.J. Kane. The biggest sellers at the moment are Virginia, Commonwealth of - Darbytown, Commonwealth of Kentucky, Clinton Township and West Virginia State Treasurer's Office - Unclaimed Property. The next to close is (Dixon, CA) 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (1649522 ) at $1,600.

Over the past year the UX Search sold archive recorded 2,814 closed seized & forfeited property sales, with a middle hammer price of $2,538 and a range from $1 to $75,500. By state, California ran about $125 (316 sales), Texas ran about $684 (295 sales) and Indiana ran about $12 (197 sales). The buyer's premium, sales tax and pickup are on top of the hammer price, and each sale on this page links to the listing it came from.

Prices at government auction follow the seller, not the item: a state fleet that serviced a truck on schedule sells it for more than a county that ran it into the ground, and a sale that closes at 2 PM on a Tuesday draws fewer bidders than one that closes Sunday night. The listing's photos, the seller's name and the location tell you most of what you need; the sold prices on this page tell you the rest.

Before you bid

  • Everything is sold as-is. Government sellers rarely guarantee condition. Read the description closely and inspect when you can.
  • Know the pickup rules. Most government sales give you a short window to remove items, and you load them yourself.
  • Count the fees. Some government platforms add a buyer’s premium; others don’t. Check each listing.
  • Watch closing times. Many government auctions extend when bids come in at the last minute.
