Home & Real Estate auctions: what the numbers say

There are 14,813 home & real estate auctions open right now across 39 states, with the most in Missouri (8,716), Pennsylvania (4,184), Illinois (537), Louisiana (189) and Florida (175). Most of them are on St. Louis LRA, City of Pittsburgh and GovDeals. The biggest sellers at the moment are St. Louis Land Reutilization Authority, City of Pittsburgh, City of Chicago (Planning and Development) and New Orleans Redevelopment Authority. The next to close is Office Lot at $10.

Over the past year the UX Search sold archive recorded 176 closed home & real estate sales, with a middle hammer price of $200 and a range from $5 to $78,000. By state, Indiana ran about $160 (58 sales), Virginia ran about $285 (21 sales) and Georgia ran about $58 (18 sales). The buyer's premium, sales tax and pickup are on top of the hammer price, and each sale on this page links to the listing it came from.

Prices at government auction follow the seller, not the item: a state fleet that serviced a truck on schedule sells it for more than a county that ran it into the ground, and a sale that closes at 2 PM on a Tuesday draws fewer bidders than one that closes Sunday night. The listing's photos, the seller's name and the location tell you most of what you need; the sold prices on this page tell you the rest.

Live counts come from the UX Search index, which reads the government auction platforms every 15 minutes; sold prices are real hammer prices from the UX sold archive over the past year. UX Search is independent and never takes a bid; bidding, payment and pickup happen on the platform that runs each sale.

UX Search links to these auction sites and is not affiliated with them. Bidding, payment and pickup happen on each site, under its own rules.

Before you bid

  • Read the terms of sale. Real estate auctions differ on deposits, closing deadlines, buyer’s premiums and whether the seller can reject the high bid.
  • Do your homework first. Check the title, liens, taxes, zoning and the property’s condition before the sale. Many are sold as-is.
  • Line up your money. Most auctions want a deposit at the sale and the balance within a set number of days. Cash or pre-approved financing helps.
  • Talk to a professional. A real estate attorney or agent can review the sale terms with you before you bid.
