Unicorn Auctions

Unicorn Auctions is a Chicago-based online auction house for rare spirits, with bourbon as its main category alongside Scotch, Japanese whisky, tequila and wine. It holds weekly timed auctions, and consignors' bottles are held by Unicorn before they are sold.

How buying works

• Registration: free, on the bidding site or the iOS and Android apps, with no membership fee.
• Bidding: autobidding places bids for you up to a maximum. A bid in the last 10 minutes resets that lot's timer to 10 minutes, and all bids are final.
• Buyer's premium: 15% of the winning bid, with Illinois sales tax added.
• After the sale: winners can store bottles with Unicorn or have them shipped, but only to states that allow individuals to ship spirits to themselves from out of state. Bottles ship 14 to 28 business days after payment is received.
