Tarisio
Tarisio is an auction house for fine stringed instruments and bows (violins, violas, cellos and their bows), founded in 1999 with offices in New York, London and Berlin. It holds seven auctions a year across those three cities, with bidding online from anywhere, and public viewings in each city or by appointment. Its trade division, T2, sells trade and restoration items without an attribution guarantee.
How buying works
- Registration: bidders register for each auction separately and verify identity with a photo ID and matching selfie. Phone and left bids are possible after registering.
- Bidding: bids are binding, proxy maximums are kept confidential, and a bid in the last 10 minutes extends that lot by 15 minutes.
- Buyer's premium: 20% of the hammer price, or 18% for a buyer who was both the first and last bidder on a lot.
- Payment is due within seven days of the invoice by wire transfer; credit cards carry a 4% fee.
- Delivery: by international courier, or collection at any of the three offices.
Good to know
- Instruments and bows containing protected materials such as ivory or pernambuco may need CITES permits to export, and some lots cannot leave the sale's region.
