Sotheby's is an international auction house that sells through both auctions and private sales. Its specialties include contemporary, modern and Impressionist art, Old Master paintings, prints, jewelry, watches, wine, decorative arts, Asian art, handbags, books and manuscripts, collectibles, sports memorabilia and automobiles.
How buying works
- Auctions are held in salerooms including New York, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Milan and Singapore, with each sale and its lots listed on the Sotheby's site.
- Private sales offer works available for purchase outside the auction calendar.
- Buy Now: an online shop sells thousands of items at fixed prices, mostly handbags, jewelry, watches, fashion and other luxury goods, with taxes and duties added at purchase.
