Scotsman Auction Company
Scotsman Auction Company is a St. Louis, Missouri, auction house and store for rare coins, paper money, precious metals and bullion, and fine jewelry. Its auctions are held live as public sales, with bids accepted from the floor and from absentee, mail, phone, email and internet bidders.
How buying works
- Absentee bidding: online bidding opens in the days before the sale, and agents execute absentee bids on the floor, so winners often pay less than their maximum. Phone bids need a credit card, and bids over $5,000 on a lot can be placed live by phone.
- Buyer's premium: 18% added to the hammer price.
- Payment in U.S. funds by PayPal, card, wire, check or money order, due on notice and past due after 15 business days.
- Pickup or mail: lots can be collected at the St. Louis store once paid, or mailed with shipping, handling and insurance added. Card purchases ship only to the billing address.
Good to know
- Returns are limited to authenticity or cataloging errors; grade disagreements do not qualify.
- Missouri charges no sales tax on coins or bullion, but does on currency and jewelry delivered in Missouri.
