How buying works
- At live auctions, bidders register on sale day for a bidder number by showing a valid driver's license; there is no registration fee.
- For online auctions, bidders create a profile and request approval to bid ahead of time. Real estate and equipment sales use separate bidding sites.
- Land is usually offered in individual tracts, in combinations and as a whole, with bidding open on all at once.
- In most cases, a 10% down payment is due on auction day. Bidding is not contingent on financing.
- Winning bidders sign a purchase agreement right after the auction, and closing normally follows within about 15 days of marketable title.
