RM Sotheby's
RM Sotheby's sells collector cars and automobilia at auction and through private sales, with sales held in North America and Europe. It runs three auction formats: live auctions, online timed auctions, and sealed-bid auctions in which bidders see only their own bid and its rank. Some lots carry a confidential reserve; lots offered without reserve go to the highest bidder.
How buying works
- Registration: a separate application for each auction, with photo ID, a credit card and proof of funds such as a bank statement or bank letter. Bidders must be over 18. The card receives a temporary hold, and a non-refundable registration fee that varies by auction may be charged.
- Ways to bid: in person, by telephone, by absentee bid, or online, depending on the sale.
- Buyer's premium: a percentage added to the hammer price; the rate is shown on each lot page.
- Payment: due in full by the first business day after the sale, in certified funds such as wire transfer. Cryptocurrency is accepted through BitPay with a 1% fee.
Good to know
- Unsold lots may be listed as "Still for Sale" and can be bought by offer.
