Ocala Breeders' Sales
Ocala Breeders' Sales (OBS) holds horse auctions at its sales grounds in Ocala, Florida. Its calendar includes an October yearling sale, a winter mixed sale, March and spring sales of two-year-olds in training, and a June sale of two-year-olds and horses of racing age. Some horses are sold through OBSOnline, its online sales platform.
How buying works
- Credit first: buyers fill in a registration and credit request form, and online bidding applications are approved by the OBS credit office, which may check credit, funds or bank references. Approval can take several days.
- Register early: new customers must register at least 48 hours before the sale.
- Bidding: in the ring, by internet bidding on horses as they sell live, or through an authorized agent buying in the buyer's name.
- After the sale: online winners complete an emailed Acknowledgement of Purchase. Buyers arrange transport and any post-purchase exams, and payments can be made by wire.
Good to know
- X-rays and veterinary reports for sale horses are kept in a repository with its own rules.
