Northern Livestock Video
Northern Livestock Video, based in Billings, Montana, markets cattle by video for ranches across Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Nebraska and beyond. It holds five major video auctions a year and manages bull, production and specialty sales. Its online bidding site also carries purebred cattle sales, horse sales and weekly timed cattle and sheep auctions.
How buying works
- Video sales: buyers need a permanent NLVA Buyer's Number, issued after banking and credit information is verified. Registration is by phone or online, and the number carries over to future sales.
- Online sales: bidders create an account and then request approval for each auction; most auctions approve bidders automatically, at the auctioneer's discretion.
- Bidding: live online during the sale or by absentee bid ahead of it; some sales take live bids only.
- Payment: video-sale buyers pay $100 per head down at the end of the sale, by cashable check or wire, with the balance due by the next business day after delivery.
