Lockerfox
Lockerfox is an online bidding service for storage unit auctions run by self-storage facilities, with auctions that can be browsed by state or zip code. Winning a bid does not complete the purchase; the buyer still has to go to the facility to pay and clear the unit.
How buying works
- Bidding: each auction has a minimum opening bid and $10 increments, with optional proxy bidding. Bids in the last two minutes reset the clock to two minutes, and all bids are binding.
- Buyer's premium: 15% of the winning bid, $10 minimum, charged to the card on file. It is refunded if the tenant pays the bill before pickup.
- Paying the facility: the winning bid, any sales tax and any cleaning deposit are paid to the facility at pickup; some remotely managed facilities take payment only by phone.
- Pickup: buyers have up to 72 hours after bidding ends, or less in some auctions, to pay and empty the unit. The cleaning deposit is refunded once the unit is left empty, and a missed pickup forfeits the buyer's premium.
