Keeneland holds horse auctions at its grounds on Versailles Road in Lexington, Kentucky. Its sales calendar includes a November Breeding Stock Sale, a November Horses of Racing Age Sale, a Championship Sale and a January Horses of All Ages Sale, each with an online catalog.
How buying works
- Register and set up credit: buyers complete a buyer registration and credit form, either online through a Keeneland Account or on a PDF form, before bidding.
- Agents: a Buyer's Authorized Agent form lets someone else buy on a buyer's behalf.
- Online bidding: Keeneland publishes an online bidding guide and buyer FAQs for its account system.
- Rules: every sale runs under Keeneland's Conditions of Sale and a public auction code of conduct. Kentucky sales tax applies unless a buyer files an exemption or resale certificate.
