IAA (Insurance Auto Auctions)
IAA, short for Insurance Auto Auctions, sells salvage, repairable and used vehicles through online auctions run from branch locations. It also hosts government vehicle auctions for the GSA.
How buying works
- Registration: buyers register online as business or public buyers before they can bid.
- Public buyers: individuals can buy lots open to the public directly, or reach other inventory through a broker.
- Fees: IAA publishes separate buyer-fee schedules for licensed and non-licensed buyers, with further schedules for heavy vehicles.
- Canada: public buyers must live in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba and can bid only at branches open to the public. Registration costs $225 a year, paid by credit card, and requires a government-issued ID.
