H.R. Harmer
H.R. Harmer is a stamp auction house founded in London in 1918 by Henry Revell Harmer, with a New York office since 1940. It sells rare stamps, covers and postal history and has handled famous collections, including those of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Alfred H. Caspary.
How buying works
- Live internet bidding: register on the website, then request a credit limit for the specific auction. Once it is confirmed, log in and bid online on sale day.
- Floor and mail bids: floor bidders register before the sale and may be asked for a cash deposit. Mail bids are also accepted.
- Buyer's premium: 22% of the hammer price on every lot.
- Payment: floor buyers pay on auction day; mail bidders within 10 business days. Checks on a U.S. bank, wire, or Visa, MasterCard or Discover with a 3% fee are accepted.
- Shipping is insured by default, with charges added to the invoice; shipments outside the U.S. go by FedEx or USPS Express Mail.
Good to know
- Lots can be sent for expert certification under set rules, and many lots, such as collections and as-is lots, cannot be returned.
