GSA Real Estate Sales
RealEstateSales.gov is the U.S. General Services Administration's site for selling surplus federal real estate. Its Office of Real Property Disposition offers property once used for federal missions, including houses, vacant land, office buildings, former military installations and lighthouses, anywhere in the United States and its territories. Vehicles and other personal property are sold separately on GSA Auctions.
How buying works
- Sign in with Login.gov. Bidders also complete identity verification for each auction they want to join; LLCs and trusts register the same way as individuals.
- Who can bid: bidders must be at least 18, and GSA screens them against federal exclusion and sanctions lists.
- Deposits and payment are set in each property's Invitation for Bids, which states the deposit amount and accepted forms of payment.
- Bidding: flat bids or proxy bids up to a set maximum. An auction closes once a set period of inactivity passes with no new bid.
- Closing: only a GSA Contracting Officer can accept a bid, in writing. After full payment GSA generally issues a quitclaim deed.
