EBTH (Everything But The House)
EBTH (Everything But The House) runs timed online auctions for individuals and families selling their belongings, from whole households to collections such as rare coins. Its staff sort, photograph, describe and list each item, and EBTH handles payment, pickup and shipping or delivery once a sale ends. Listings run for as long as seven days, and bidding opens at $1.
How buying works
- Accounts: bidders must sign in or sign up to bid. Sign-up asks for credit card details, which EBTH uses to check the billing address against the bidder's information, and each email address can hold only one bidder profile.
- Ways to bid: bidding is online, and items a bidder has bid on or followed appear in an "I'm Following" list.
- Invoices: winning bidders find their invoices in the "I've Won" list roughly an hour after a sale closes.
- Payment: at checkout, buyers pick shipping and payment options and can use the card on file, which is held by the processor Stripe rather than on EBTH's servers.
- Pickup and shipping: buyers collecting at a sale location can pay ahead and skip the payment line. Each item's "Pickup & Shipping Options" tab either gives a shipping quote for an entered address or notes that the item needs custom shipping, with an estimate sent by email.
