Collecting Cars
Collecting Cars is an online auction platform for classic, sports and performance cars, plus motorcycles, parts and number plates. It is headquartered in the United Kingdom, with offices across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the UAE. Standard auctions run for seven days, and a bid in the last two minutes resets the timer to two minutes.
How buying works
- Registration: a free account with a registered payment card and identity verification through Stripe. Each bid places a temporary hold on the card.
- Buyer's premium for cars and bikes: charged to the card only if the lot meets reserve. Buyers outside the U.K. and Australia pay 6% (minimum £1,000, maximum $10,000 in U.S. dollars); U.K. and Australian buyers pay rates that include local tax.
- Payment: the hammer price goes straight to the seller, usually by bank transfer, within seven working days.
- Transport: arranged and paid for by the buyer; buyers from another country should check import duties and taxes before bidding.
Good to know
- Sealed Bids sales work differently: the seller pays the fees, and the winning bidder pays a deposit before receiving the seller's details.
