Cars & Bids
Cars & Bids is an online auction marketplace for enthusiast cars, trucks and SUVs, with an emphasis on vehicles from the 1980s onward. It was created by automotive reviewer Doug DeMuro. Auctions run for seven days and start at $0; a bid in the final minute resets the clock to one minute.
How buying works
- Registration: create an account, verify your email and add a credit card, which is required to bid. International bidders are allowed but handle import, export and transport themselves.
- Bids are binding. Each bid places a hold on the card of 5% of the bid ($250 minimum, $7,500 maximum), released if you do not win.
- Buyer's fee: 5% of the sale price, with a $250 minimum and a $7,500 maximum.
- Payment: the full price is due to the seller within one week, either directly or through SafePay, which charges the buyer $198.
- Shipping: transport is the buyer's cost; instant quotes are available for most vehicles.
Good to know
- Reserves are hidden. Cars marked No Reserve sell to the high bidder at any price.
