BLM Wild Horse and Burro Online Corral
The Online Corral is the Bureau of Land Management's website for adopting or buying wild horses and burros through online bidding. Adopted animals stay federal property until the adopter receives a Certificate of Title; purchased animals become the buyer's property right away. Purchase is limited to animals over 10 years old or younger animals already offered for adoption at least three times.
How buying works
- Approval first: bidders sign in through Login.gov and submit an application, which must be approved before bidding. Approval sets how many animals a bidder may take and must meet BLM care and facility standards.
- Bidding: each bid raises the current bid by $5 to $250, and proxy bidding can bid in $5 steps up to a set maximum.
- Payment: winners have four calendar days to choose a pickup location, pay through Pay.gov and sign the care agreement or bill of sale.
- Pickup: animals are collected at an off-range corral or satellite event with photo ID, and the BLM loads them into an approved trailer.
- Title: adopters can apply for title after one year with a signed statement confirming humane care.
