Artnet Auctions
Artnet Auctions is an online marketplace where galleries and dealers around the world sell fine and decorative art. Artnet itself is not the seller of the works; the consigning gallery or dealer is. Registration, bidding and the post-sale steps all run through an online Auctions account.
How buying works
- Registration: free, but bidders must be at least 18, complete a profile and add a credit card that is verified by a third party.
- Bidding: every lot has a reserve that must be met. Maximum bids are placed automatically in increments, all bids are binding, and a bid in the last five minutes extends the sale by five minutes.
- Buyer's premium: 25% of the hammer price up to $500,000, 20% from $500,001 to $1,000,000 and 15% above that, charged to the card on file when the sale closes. Taxes may apply.
- Payment: the seller sends the winning bidder an invoice and payment instructions; all prices are in U.S. dollars.
- Shipping: the buyer arranges and pays for shipping and transit insurance, and can request quotes from Artnet's third-party shippers.
