How buying works
- Ways to bid: on the floor, by mail bid sheet, by fax or email ahead of the sale, by phone, or through live internet bidding on the company's site or outside platforms.
- Buyer's premium is added to the hammer price and is higher for live internet bids, and higher again on third-party platforms.
- Payment: winners receive an emailed invoice. Mail bidders pay within three business days of notice, by check or card; late payments carry a monthly charge. New Jersey or New York sales tax applies unless exempt.
- Shipping goes to the address on file, with handling, delivery and insurance added; title passes only after full payment.
Good to know
- Items described incorrectly or found not genuine can be returned within set time limits; lots described with defects are generally excluded.
