Acker
Acker, whose branding reads "Since 1820," auctions fine and rare wine and spirits, with lots ranging from single bottles to multiple and mixed cases. Live auctions are held on set dates, in a room with an auctioneer or online by web feed, and weekly web auctions run online from Monday to Sunday evening. Spirits are sold in monthly auctions through its Acker Distilled division. Its retail store is in Manhattan, with stock held in the U.S. and Asia and a warehouse in Hong Kong.
How buying works
- Registration: create an account and add a payment method; staff approval can take minutes to a few hours, and one approved account covers future sales. Bidders must be 21 in the U.S.
- Bidding: online, through maximum bids placed in advance, or by absentee or phone bid form; live auctions need an advance reservation.
- Buyer's premium: 25%. Payment is due within 30 days by card, check or wire; card payments carry a fee of 2% or more.
- Pickup and shipping: wine can be collected at the Manhattan store or a warehouse. Acker does not ship outside New York State itself but helps arrange shipping.
